World Suicide Prevention Day

Are you feeling a little down today on September 10th?

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is an awareness day observed on 10 September every year, in order to provide worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides, with various activities around the world since 2003.

The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) collaborates with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) to host World Suicide Prevention Day.

An estimated one million people per year die by suicide or about one person in 10,000 (1.4% of all deaths), or "a death every 40 seconds or about 3,000 every day." As of 2004, the number of people who die by suicide is expected to reach 1.5 million per year by 2020.

Right now, with COVID-19, because of unemployment, uncertainties, and the unknown outcome for the future, people are down and depressed and have anxiety.

People may have suicidal thoughts that want to commit suicide. But there is hope; you have a choice to live. You are not alone in this struggle.

Your mental health is important. You are important and matter. With what is happening right now, this topic is relevant and well needed to talk about with family and friends! We need to have a talk together and take away the stigma out of mental illness. We can fight this together!

One way where individuals raise awareness on World Suicide Prevention Da

According to the Center for Disease Control, suicide was the tenth leading cause of death overall in the United States in 2018. It was the second leading cause of death among those ages 18 to 34.

Today, on World Suicide Prevention Day, experts say it’s important to not only talk about suicide and how we can all help but also to know the signs and symptoms too. It’s also important to note that there is help for those who are struggling.
