Beating those Quarantine Blues!

One minute we are enjoying the sounds, tastes and feels of the places we frequent with friends and loved ones, and within a moment, plans quickly changed as most of the world came to a halt. Traveling plans postponed. Major social events have cancelled. Social distancing came into play and many of us became tucked away in our apartments and homes. The reason: Covid-19. What that meant for us was no school, no concerts, no mall-shopping, no vacations, no sporting events or any kind of mass gathering. Even Disneyland... closed. While this is the fourth time in history that the land of our favorite mouse has closed its gates to the world, this is historically it's longest closure. (I am a mourning Annual Passholder who understands the importance of why my happy place is closed.)

While most of the world is in self-quarantine mode, this leads to another lesser problem: Boredom. Like the saying goes, "You never know how much you miss something until its gone."

We at Fashioned do believe that even in the worst of times, there will be good that will somehow come out of it. There is a silver lining and though it may take some time, things will get better. Until that glorious day, all of the time you have always wished you had, is suddenly here.

The good news? Now is the time. Now is the time to pick up wishful hobbies, books that could never fit in your schedule, the spring cleaning you have been putting off since last spring. Now is the time!

To get those creative juices flowing on things you can do while to beat the quarantine blues, here is a list of things that you can do to use this gift of "you-time" time wisely.

  • Spring cleaning
Time to organize, clean, deep clean, throw away and even purchase new always wanted items. Your dream HGTV home is calling. There are still some places that are open and accepting second-hand clothes. Make Marie Kondo proud. Many hardware stores are still open and online delivery is still a thing. Just bite the bullet and go!

  • Cooking
Though most restaurants are still open for take-out and delivery, that Lemon Garlic Chicken recipe you have saved on your Instagram just waiting to be cooked. Whether you're at home with the entire family or alone, cooking is can be very therapeutic. It is a great way to bond, experiment and have fun!

  • Paint and Sip
Whether you are a closet Picasso or a stick figure machine, here is an activity for you! Head over to Facebook or Instagram and search for your local paint-and-sip instructors. Most of them will be offering paint nights––some of them being absolutely free. Grab your family or your besties (through zoom), brew your favorite hot beverage and paint (and sip) the night away.

  • Bingo
Here is another fun activity that can be done through any online platform. Just search for a template of your liking, send it to all who want to play, through email or text, and B-I-N-G-O you have a game.

  • Dinner dates
Calling all foodies ... this is for you! One of the things I miss doing is sitting at a table surrounded by great people and good food. Set up a date and time––maybe a food theme, pick your online video platform and bon appetite! You can even add a movie too, using Instagram chat, Messenger, Zoom, Teams or the new trending app, House Party, will help connect everyone with ease.

  • Working out
There are many outlets available through most social media platforms to get you moving, sweating, building muscle, relaxing, running and dancing! They even have Disney Zumba online, you can finally shake your hips to "Let it Go" and tell your muffin top to let go! Always wanted to learn how to kick-box, do barre, pilates or dance? Now is the time!

These are just a few things that you can do while the stay-at-home order is in effect. Many of the zoos, national parks and even theme parks are virtual. So you can look at the polar bears living at the San Diego Zoo from the comfort of your bed, or even visit Yellowstone National Park. You can go outside and plant a garden or remodel your yard. Oh! Did someone say, " Movie Marathon!?" I'll pop the popcorn. Learn a new language or read an entire series of books.

Whatever you do, make sure you do it for YOU. This is the time when self-care is vital. Take care of your body, giving it what it needs and protect it from danger. Take long baths or showers, take that extra amount of time for facial care, stay away from crowds, go on a hike, wash hand frequently, learn how to groom yourself properly, do your own nails, eat clean ... only when you're hungry.

Your body will love you and everybody will thank you!
