The Ultimate Cheese Board Guide
- Cheese: this, of course, is the staple of your board, hence the cheese board. So it is wise to start off with a variety of cheeses. You can do a hard cheese ( like gouda), blue cheese, a soft cheese (like brie). Other good choices like American, Muenster, sharp cheddar, mozzarella or even the childhood favorite cheese wiz.
- Cured meats: finely sliced meat such as salami, coppa, prosciutto. Adding these charcuteries will jazz up any board.
- Spread: Simple spreads such as pesto or sun-dried tomato spread is a great additive, it also allows you to feature a cute dish or bowl for a visual statement.
- Fill in the blanks: These can be an assortment of nuts, crackers, pretzels, bread, fruit such a grapes, apple or pear slices or small garnishes.
Add a natural touch: The color and shape of the board can changes things from simple and safe to chic and sophisticated.
Keep it simple: If you are having a small get together or a date with a special someone, keep your board simple with two or three types of cheese, a cured meat, and fruit like grapes. Now if you are having the soirée of the year or a party where you want to impress someone then add three more varieties of cheese ( make sure one to two are spreadable), olives, salami, nuts and one to two different types of spread.
